Review: NYX Cream Eyeshadow in Pinky Beige

It's very rare that I buy a product that I do not like. Generally, I try to do a lot of research on brands and products I want to buy before I even think about purchasing. I read lots of other reviews, which is what makes the blogging community so wonderful, and I watch loads of YouTube videos if they're available. But being human, every once in awhile I slip up. I buy something on a whim and it just doesn't work out.

I've been wanting to try NYX products for a year or so now. The blogging world loves the brand, and one can hardly watch YouTube makeup gurus without finding someone who adores them. So when my friend took me to a local store in Brooklyn that sold NYX products, I was thrilled -- for some reason, they're not sold in my local CVS. I picked their cream eyeshadow partly because I LOVE cream shadows in general, and partly because I adored the color. I have a Revlon lipgloss that is almost the exact same pinky-beige shade, and I thought the combo would make a perfect office-appropriate pink look for me.

The tube contains 0.09 oz. of product, and comes with a doe foot applicator.

The moment I applied it, I knew I was in trouble. It goes on smooth at first, with beautiful opaque color. However, ANY attempts to blend that color in or spread it with your fingers end in disaster.

As you can see from the swatch, the color is lovely on my hand. But on my eye, it goes on VERY unevenly and is impossible to blend. It also dries quickly, making it harder to fix any mistakes. It looks horrible worn by itself, and doesn't work well as a base because it doesn't increase the color payoff of my powder shadows or make them stay on any longer.

Overall, I was very disappointed with my first NYX purchase. My second purchase, their pencil eyeliner, was a bit more successful, and there will be a review on that at some point. I cannot say I would recommend their cream shadows, and I will not be repurchasing.

What products have you tried from NYX? Did they live up to the hype?

  1. wow, it's too bad that it didn't turn out to be as great as the color because that color is beautiful!
