Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation

I've had this foundation for a few weeks and loved it from the start, but I wanted to wait to review it to make sure it really was as awesome as I initially thought. Thankfully, it is!

At first glance, the texture of this foundation seems...odd. It's definitely not a liquid, but it's not quite a cream, either. It's also rather thick and creamy to the touch, not feather light and mousse-like as the name lead me to expect. I thought at first that this was Revlon's version of Maybelline's Dream Matte Mousse (which I still really want to try), but it's actually very different. Some bloggers have described this as looking and feeling like melted ice cream, and I'd say they're spot on.

I've used it almost daily for a month or so and still barely made a dent. It's not filled up to the very top when you first buy it, so it looks like I've used more than I actually have.

I love, love, LOVE the finish and the coverage of this foundation. It gives a semi-matte, medium to full coverage look that amazingly still looks natural. I have lots of acne scars and the occasional breakout, so I need lots of coverage, but I also don't want to look like a cake face every day! This turned out to the perfect middle ground. The darkest shade, Caramel, is also a really good match for me, possibly the best foundation match I've bought so far.

I highly recommend this for girls with oily skin, it lasts all day on me and only greases up on my nose, which gets oily no matter what I wear. The rest of my face becomes dewy, but not greasy, and this foundation also doesn't transfer, so no smudges on my clothes.

What are the downsides? The glass jar is beautiful and fine for using at home, but I probably won't travel with it because I don't want to risk having foundation leak out and get all over the rest of my makeup! The shade selection is also terrible, especially for women of color. The shade that matches me, Caramel, is the darkest, so if you're darker than my skin tone (NW 45) all the shades will be too light for you. This is disappointing because Revlon usually has amazing shade selection for a drugstore product. Hopefully if this gains popularity, they'll provide more options.

Last but not least, this is overpriced depending on where you get it. It's almost $15 at CVS! Absolutely ridiculous for .8 ounces of product! The regular Revlon Colorstay foundation is $11-12, and they give you a full ounce! Pick it up at Walmart where the prices are lower, or get a coupon if you can.

Have you tried Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme foundation? If so, what did you think?

  1. This looks great! Thanks for the review.
Definitely something that I think I would like.
What does it smell like? The smell of colorstay has always put me off!

    1. Thanks, Sharleena! It does have a smell to it, but it's far less intense than the original Colorstay. It's a very toned down paint smell, but it goes away quickly. :)

  2. Hey! Just stopped by from the blog hop!! :)
$15 for a drugstore foundation is pretty steep. Goodness. I'd be interested in trying this out for texture!

    1. Hey, thanks for checking out my blog! :) I agree, the price is insane. I've heard it's a little lower at Walmart and Target, but wherever you go, it's pricey compared to other drugstore foundations.

  3. Hi Just popped over from the blog hop :).

Might have to give this a try, I'm not really a liquid girl and I do love dream matte mousse so I wonder how I would do with something in the middle.

    1. Great! I'm not much into liquid foundation either, I find it too time consuming and it can give too much coverage for an everyday look. This product was a nice alternative!
