NARS Blush: Is it Worth the Hype?

My two NARS Blushes -- Taos (left) and Mata Hari (right)

There's loads of hype around NARS blushes, particularly the shade Orgasm. People have raved about the quality and superb color selection. But along with all that hype comes a hefty price tag -- these blushes are currently $28 each (according to Sephora.com). That's a lot of money to spend on a product you can find for much cheaper prices elsewhere. So a savvy shopper has to ask themselves: Is it worth the hype? Or are these blushes just another overrated product like so many other high-end cosmetics?

The answer to this question varies from person to person and depends on your individual needs, but my answer is a definite yes. NARS blushes are pretty darn amazing in terms of both their color selection and the overall quality of the product. Is it worth $28? Probably not if you're trying to save money on makeup. Would I still spend that amount of money to try a few more shades? Without a doubt.

What makes these blushes stand out against my few attempts at finding a good drugstore blush is the pigmentation. I literally only have to dab my brush into these two colors ever so slightly to get an opaque color deposit on my cheeks. In fact, it's really easy to overdo it with NARS blushes because you only need a very tiny amount to look naturally flushed. This almost makes up for the ridiculous price -- my oldest blush of the two, Taos, is almost a year old, and I haven't even made a dent in it, even after using it a few times a week for the entire time that I've owned it.

I have yet to try the mythical Orgasm, as I don't think it would show up much on my skin. But I LOVE the two I already have. Taos is a shimmery deep brick red that is almost an exact match for the red undertones in my skin. Mata Hari is a muted matte pink that can be worn all year round and is great for an everyday look.If you're in the market for a high end blush that's worth the hype, I highly recommend trying this one. There are more shades in this line than any blush collection I've seen (except perhaps MAC), so everyone can find at least one color that works well for them.

Have you tried NARS blushes? If so, what did you think of them? Was Orgasm as amazing as beauty bloggers have claimed?

  1. I own Orgasm and I love it! I definitely want to try Taos.

  2. I own Dolce Vita and Taj Mahal and they are so worth it. I am such the blush snob.
