Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow Quad in Lavender Lights

Hi, everyone! I know I haven't been posting as often as I was before. I'm trying to slow down and put a lot of thought into my posts so the ones that do go up are the best they can be. I want this blog to be informative and fun, and I'm still working on finding my "voice" here. Practice makes perfect, right?

I picked up this quad during one of my many wanderings through my local CVS. I go there almost every night on my way home from work to see if there are new products out or new shades to add to my collection. As much as I love bright colors though, I really love my neutrals, so it's no surprise that this quad caught my attention. I was most attracted to the pink (labeled as the "lid" color in the packaging, top right in the photo) and the taupe color (labeled "crease," bottom right next to the white shade). Unfortunately, the entire quad ended up being a huge disappointment. I'm glad I didn't end up wasting much money on it. The swatches below should help explain why.

The colors all have a pearl finish, my least favorite finish in an eye or lip product. That would be tolerable if the shades were well pigmented, but as you can see, they're not.  It took several swipes to get these colors to show up as more than streaks of glitter on my hand, and even then they are not fully opaque. The variation in shades that can be seen in the pan disappears when the shadows are actually applied. They all look the same -- a silvery white glittery mess, when there is supposed to be one pink, two taupes, and one white.

These looked like a sparkly mess on my lids (sorry I did not take a photo -- I was so embarrassed by the look I was not up for putting it on film!), and because there isn't much difference in the colors, I wasn't able to properly contour my lid with the darkest shade. That's a deal breaker for me, I need a good contour color to give shape to my hooded lids. If that's not present somewhere in my palettes, I tend to not use them as much.

This was not worth the $8.39 CVS was charging. I believe I got it on sale with one of their in-store coupons, but I bought it awhile ago so I'm not entirely sure. Either way, it was a complete waste of money and not even remotely flattering on me. I'm a big fan of Maybelline and own other quads from them that are amazing, so this is in no way a reflection of their entire Expert Wear line. But boy, was this quad the dud of the bunch I've purchased. From now on, I'll be avoiding their pearl shadows like the plague.
